Approx. 60,000 industry skills cards (CSCS) issued under the Grandfather Rights process expired on 31st December 2024 and cannot be renewed.
All CSCS Industry Accreditation cards issued from 1st Jan 2020 will end and is part of the Construction Leadership Council’s drive for a fully trained and competent workforce.
Industry Accreditation previously allowed card holders to gain certification on the strength of an employers' recommendation rather than the achievement of a recognised qualification.
The easiest way to find out if you or an employee has an industry accredited course is to look at the back of the card and see if the words ‘industry accreditation’ are printed on the card.
After 31st December 2024, for those whose CSCS Cards were issued under the Grandfather Rights you will need to move onto the new CSCS Cards aligned with the updated qualifications and standards.
If you need a CSCS Card to step onto a Construction site, you will need to take action quickly.
The easiest way to demonstrate your competence to obtain a new CSCS card is via an NVQ.
With our help, completing an NVQ has never been simpler and with funding and enhanced grants from the CITB, now is the time to do it.
If you already have a suitable NVQ or other suitable qualification you may be able to apply for a new CSCS card. See below for a list of these suitable qualifications.
Once you are registered for an NVQ, you maybe able to apply for an Experienced Worker CSCS Card.
The Experienced Worker card is for workers with on the job experience (normally at least one year in the last three) who are registered to a complete an approved construction related NVQ/SVQ level 2, SVQ at SCQF level 5 or higher.
The card is valid for one year and cannot be renewed. Cardholders are expected to complete their qualification by the time the card expires and apply for a skilled CSCS card.

This temporary card then allows you the time to complete your NVQ, so you can then apply for a new CSCS Card based upon the level and type of NVQ undertaken.
